Work is well underway with the construction of a landmark €114m investment of a wastewater scheme in Athlone by Uisce Eireann. On completion the project will upgrade the town’s wastewater infrastructure which will safeguard the environment, enhance water quality in the River Shannon, and enable future growth and development through the town and environs.
The project will also improve the capacity and operational performance of the existing sewers, significantly reducing the risk of sewer flooding to homes and businesses.
The project involves massive engineering expertise and Uisce Eireann kindly offers scheduled viewing of the works to students and other interested groups. Big thanks to them for facilitating a viewing to the Municipal District members. Cllrs. Paul Hogan, Liam McDaniel and myself were delighted to accept the invitation to witness history in the making.
